Aye yay yaye

The title says what I have been repeatedly being saying these last few weeks 'I love you ,you are beautiful' -me- 'Aye Yay Yaye' , 'That will be 5000 franks'(when I know the price is 2000) -me- Aye Yay Yaye , 'good morning teacher!!!!How are you!I am fine!!' at 7pm in the evening by the local children -me- Aye Yay Yaye. There are so many things that I say this too, that the locals are starting to imitate me a,t least the naughty boys on the way too and from the orphanage do. Yesterday I came down with a throwing up bug which was extremely unpleasant but no matter because today I am fine.As I have about 9 days before I leave the country of rwanda which I am totally in love with I have made a list of all the htings I have larnt. I have learnt so many things
* I have learnt all about horses from two fellow trainer /jockey volunteers.
* I have learnt a lot of kinyarwanda and a lot about the customs of Rwanda.
* I have learnt to dress neatly and with respect to myself.
* I have learnt how to keep 50 children at once entertained.
* I have learnt several new games and songs for children.
* I have learnt how to hand wash clothes.
* I have learnt how to wash hair and body with the least possible amount of water.
* I have learnt how to say No.
* I have learnt not to get carried way by my heart but to think it through with my head.
* I have learnt to be political.
* I have learnt that I am totally in love with the children of Rwanda , and Rwanda itself.
And loads more.. Its been an incredible learning experience for me , I think this will be one of the last blog entries in Rwanda unless I find time next week.
Well the weekend as I said in Gisenye was fantastic , one of the highlights was the busride back when a little 5 year old boy came and sat on my lap and when we got to Kigali he kept on saying in Kinyarwanda look at the lights, Kigali is good and making me look at everything. The downer of the weekend was sharing a small double three quarter bed with gabrielle and michelle, because we were trying to be cheap!! Also another downer was when we tried to walk around the lake but told to return back by these two army guys with huge guns because there was a military camp further up the road and no amount of eye batting (haha) worked on them . Oh yes and another 'This is Africa moment' was when we followed a wedding procession from the hotel because they were heading in the same direction as us and all of a sudden the procession stopped (which involved hand clapping, stomping, shouting and singing) and the bride went down into the grass on the side of the road to do her buisness in plain view with her dowry dress on... We thought it was pretty funny. Oh yes and I almost got ridden over by a bicycle taxi, I stepped out to cross the road and the stupid bike saw me but kept on driving towards me even though the whole road was empty and I was waiting for him to pass and he drove right into me .Luckily I stopped it by reaching out and grabbing the handlebars before the wheel completely squashed me. Today It was great being at the orphanage, the kids were so happy to see me and I was even happier to see them. I bathed several babies which was really cute and fun. The kids were very well behaved, I told two of the 'mammas' Alexandrine and Jeanette that I would be leaving soon and they told me that I was very very bad. The children , are not happy about me going but unfortunately that's life. Aye Yay Yaye , Its going to be so hard to say goodbye to them .
I recieved a Rwandese name from my friend Abraham , its Keza, which I found out later means beautiful woman. So now I know kinyarwanda (well thats a huge exaggeration, I know a little), I have a Rwandese name, and I can find my way around Kigali, and I know several Kinyarwanden songs including a hymn, local rap music and nursery ryhmes, and I know a lot about the customs and ways of the Rwandese. I am a Rwanden and even if I never return to Rwanda , I will always remain this way because this popular saying in Rwanda applys to my life 'you can leave Rwanda , but Rwanda will never leave you '
